About Electrical Engineering Department IIT Ropar
The Department currently runs three programs, a Bachelors programme with a total intake of forty students per academic year, a Master of Science (Research) program and a Doctoral programme to cater to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in specialised avenues of Electrical Engineering.
The under graduate programme provides the students with a strong background in the four broad areas of Electrical Engineering, namely, communication technology, control technology, electronics, and power & energy. A strong exposure to state-of-the-art technologies is further provided through elective courses that are carefully designed for the interested students.The Department has produced outstanding students and academic toppers, including the institute topper securing President's Gold Medal for the pioneering batch of 2008 entry students. Both the graduating batches of 2008 and 2009 have included top scorers in the prestigious all India CAT examination of 2011 and 2012, respectively.
The undergraduate placement scenario for the pioneering batch has seen about eighty percent of the aspiring students placed successfully. Companies such as Microsoft, Samsung and the DRDO laboratories have been involved in hiring the graduating members of the 2008 entry students.Faculty members of the department are active in several research areas, such as; Renewable Energy, Communication, Infrared Imaging, Non-destructive Testing, Signal and Image processing, Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering, Nano-Dielectrics, Space Charges in Dielectrics, interconnect design for chips, multi-core architecture, materials for high-speed circuits, Analog, RF and Mixed Signal VLSI Circuits and Systems, Image Retrieval, Medical Imaging, Face Recognition, Object Tracking.
The Department undertakes a continuous process of setting up experimental and computational facilities for taking up research & development and consultancy activities in various fields as also to produce state-of-the-art research output.
